FOUND IMAGE
Brief: "...find/locate/record an example of design that represents what their discipline of choice is about."
I selected an image I once saw a long time ago that has stuck with me since. It is a visual impression of the internet, recorded using programs that search IP addresses and maps them in a visual fashion. I really liked this image for what it represents and also for it's aesthetic quality. To me it shows interconnection which was one of the words that kept coming up in our group brainstorm. I also like the fact that it is a visual representation of something which is traditionally a non visual technology. It begins to form some kind of hybrid between technology and art. Giving form to digital media.

STORYBOARDS
STORYBOARD ONE
This is my first storyboard which I designed with the concept of programming in mind and how it relates to essentially every aspect of Media Design.
STORYBOARD TWO
This is my second storyboard idea which becomes far more abstract than the first.
The first and second slides show a traditional physical media being translated onto a digital screen. And the next slides link the shapes to a local icon which from there, zoom out further to show Wellington and finally the world, at which point, using idea from my found image, the globe is encompassed with interconnecting threads until it is completely overwhelmed and the screen fades to white.
I liked this idea of technology and communication evolving to essentially encompass/meld with our world.

TEST VIDEO
First test video, trying out ideas from storyboard one. Several points to be considered here - more efficient photo taking to stop so much juddering. Light source? Have also realised how much time the video takes up - so maybe more refining of ideas - what is it exactly I want to show.

TYPOGRAPHY
My quote of choice was 'In the end, the only audience that matters is you.' from the documentary 'Objectified' that we watched in Studio. I took this to mean that the most important part of your work is what -you- as an individual put into it. To forget trends and worrying what other people are doing. To embrace your own individuality.
I used two main themes for my typeface. The first being that it is based directly off my own handwriting. I analysed samples of my own writing and came up with the forms for my typeface esp. looking at the almost calligraphic/brush ink feel to many of the letter forms.
The second theme was that of fingerprints - symbol for 'unique'/'individuality', which I put into several selected characters.

AXONOMETRIC
My glasses case. Cylindrical object which rolls fully around itself. I wanted to try and project this movement into the drawing.

SKETCH
My hand. Showing form through line, responding to a mixture of two artists from studio. Considering fluidity, direction and stroke.

IDENTITY
Items I had in my bag. I wanted to distort the grid format while still retaining some structural form. I considered hierarchy and asymmetry in my approach.
